We have lots of reel grinding and prepping for the golf season happening.
Since mowing reels operate like a scissor, they need to be sharpened yearly so the grass blades are cut cleanly with no ripping or tearing. We also add a relief angle to each blade so their is less friction during the mowing operation between the blade and the bedknife. The relief angle results in the machine not having to work as hard to spin the reels, relief grinding removes metal from the trailing edge of the blade forming an angle (relief angle) to reduce the contact area of the cutting edges. This reduces blade contact area in addition to less friction, also ensures longer wear life resulting in less fuel costs and equipment wear.
